A handful of value pockets, not the whole market
Vedartha India Opportunities Fund Series 1 is Bandhan Alternates Mid and Small Cap AIF strategy, founded on the belief that market prices periodically diverge from underlying business fundamentals as a result of market cycles and investor behaviour. The strategy seeks to exploit these dislocations through a contrarian approach, expecting returns as intrinsic business value is recognised and market expectations normalise over time.
The process begins with a top down assessment of the macroeconomic environment, business cycles, earnings trends, liquidity conditions and relative sector valuations, narrowing the opportunity set to a limited number of value pockets. Within these pockets, companies are evaluated through the Management Business Valuation framework, with investments considered only when both business quality and valuation support the thesis.
A top down view, a bottom up filter
Top down analysis narrows the opportunity set to a limited number of identified value pockets where market expectations have diverged from fundamentals, rather than spreading research evenly across the market.
Buy and hold, not trade the dislocation
Portfolio construction follows a buy and hold approach, waiting for intrinsic value to be recognised rather than trading in and out as sentiment shifts.
Business quality and valuation both have to agree
Investments are considered only when business quality and valuation both support the thesis; a strong case on just one of the two isn't enough to earn a place in the portfolio.
