SIF Distributor: How To Become Specialized Investment Fund Distributor
In a significant move aimed at enriching the Indian investment ecosystem, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has introduced a new asset category, Specialized Investment Funds (SIFs). It is designed to bridge the gap between traditional mutual funds and high-ticket alternatives such as Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) and Portfolio Management Services (PMS), SIFs offer a compelling opportunity for investors seeking enhanced options without the high entry thresholds of AIFs.
In this article, I will explain to you what SIF distributor is, who can become a SIF distributor, how to become a specialized investment fund distributor, eligibility, ARN, NISM XIII, fees, renewal process & distributor responsibilities
What Are Specialized Investment Funds (SIFs)?
SIFs are specialized investment funds that are tailored to appeal to investors who desire more sophistication than mutual funds offer, yet do not wish to commit the typically large sums required by PMS or AIFs. SEBI has set the minimum investment ticket size at ₹10 lakh, positioning SIFs as a mid-level product within the broader investment spectrum.
Who is the SIF distributor?
SIF distributor is an individual or entity authorized to market and distribute Specialized Investment Funds (SIFs), which is a new asset class introduced by SEBI that bridges the gap between mutual funds and high-ticket investment products like AIFs and PMS. They are responsible for advising investors, facilitating investments in SIF products, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

For mutual fund distributors (MFDs), this creates a fresh way for product expansion, provided they must meet specific eligibility criteria, including having a valid ARN, NISM Series-XIII certification, and a valid EUIN. Registration and renewal fees vary by distributor category and include GST.
SIF distributors are responsible for educating clients, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining valid certifications, and staying up-to-date with regulatory compliance.
