WHAT IS IPO ALLOTMENT?

IPO allotment is a phenomenon where the registrar of office allocates the shares according to the bids placed by the investors and applicants. When the shares are oversubscribed, the allotment is done through the lottery system, and based on its result, you are assigned the shares. 

In the case of IPOs of most companies, the allotment process takes about a week to 10 days time to complete. The registrar updates the allotment status on their website where investors can reach out and check their status by filling in the required details.

HOW TO CHECK ALLOTMENT STATUS OF IPO?

All shares to the eligible applicant are credited on a certain date along with the refunds and unblocking of funds from ASBA which is according to the schedule mentioned in the prospectus of the entity. 

Here, we will be discussing two broad ways through which you can check your allotment status. 

Checking IPO allotment status through Registrar’s Website (Link Intime, KFintech(Karvy), etc.):

  1. Select “Company Name” from the dropdown menu. Please note that the company name will be visible only after the IPO allotment process has been accomplished.
  2. Checkbox either “Application Number” or “PAN number” or Client/Depository ID.
  3. Type in your Application number or PAN number or Client/Depository ID in the given box.
  4. And at last, click on the “Submit” button.

Checking IPO status allotment through the BSE Website:

  1. Go to the BSE website and click on the application status page.
  2. Click on the Equity box.
  3. Select your Issue name from the dropdown menu. Please note that the entity’s name will appear only after the IPO allotment process is accomplished.
  4. Enter your application number in the given Input box.
  5. Type your PAN number in the given box.
  6. And at last, click on the ‘Search’ button.

After filling in all these required details correctly, you will be able to see the application status of your application. You can see the number of shares that have been applied by you and the shares actually allotted to you. 

HOW TO INCREASE IPO ALLOTMENT CHANCES?

SEBI has given equal status to all the applicants out there with a value less than Rs. 2,00,000. So there is no perk for submitting large volume applications. What you can do is try applying through multiple Demat accounts linked with a different PAN. 
You can bid on the higher end to increase your chances as bidders ready to pay the cut-off price are given more preference. You can check the allotment status of QIBs, HNI, and retail categories during the first two days to test the market reaction, If the response is decent or good, go ahead with your investment.
